Research

Present projects:

The above projects present main elements of my research. My work has focused on the biology of maine, planktonic organisms - initially the autecology and functional biology of marine (dino-)flagellates and zooplankton organisms. In the recent years, my interests have turned towards alveolate parasites in marine environments - with particularly interest in the molecular phylogeny of these organisms. Part of my research has been performed on laboratory cultures, and I have, therefore, spent quite some time and effort on establishing and maintaining cultures of various heterotrophic, phototrophic and mixotrophic plankton organisms and in designing and performing experimental studies with these. These methods are, however, not so easily used for the alveolate parasites, and this part of my work have, therefore, relied heavily of continuous sampling of fresh, live material.
